Felt strangely compelled to watch some Six, after listening to Sirens of Time and deciding he can't be all that rubbish. So:

Hooray!

· Eleanor Bron. In a turban. That woman can make the line ‘And then I shall control the food supply of the galaxy!’ sound surprisingly unstupid.
· William Gaunt. In a ponytail. And leather trousers. OK, he looks ridiculous, but he has an exciting heroic death and a big gay sidekick.
· Snow.
· Davros in a fishtank!
· Perspex Dalek!
· Soylent Green is PEOPLE!

Boo!

· Eric Saward has written a story which is inexplicably reliant on double acts. And then ‘humorously’ pointed it out. Ow.
· Alexei Sayle and his ray-gun of Rawk. And him and Peri trying to out-awful one another in a scary accent face-off.
· The woman with the wet lips and the freakish baby-face was infinitely scarier than the Daleks.
· Peri’s coat makes her look like a Boobah. I actually thought she must be pregnant for three-quarters of this.
· The Doctor going to shake Davros’s hand?
· I did not really understand what the hell was going on even at all.

I think this really suffers from the Father’s Day empty-TARDIS syndrome of ‘this is a fantastic image, let’s use it even though it makes no sense!’ The Perspex Dalek, the Doctor’s tombstone, Davros being just a head: look nice, go nowhere.

Colin’s quite good. I really don’t hate Six as much as I think I do. But it’s another one of those where there’s so much time spent on the ‘amusing’ side characters that the Doctor gets bog all to do (apart from stand around wishing he’d worn something else). The entire thing would’ve happened in almost exactly the same way if he hadn’t been there at all.

Conclusion: I like Doctor Who better when he gets to run about solving puzzles and being silly and heroic and fabulous. But all episodes should take place in snow, because it makes the TARDIS look even more marvo than usual.

Heh, yes, the ginger minx does tend to be a bit inescapable in these parts, even when I try to branch out:)

Revelation certainly has some things to recommend it - and Colin is actually one of the best things in it, which makes it even more annoying that his role's so small. Am amazed to discover the Beeb site touting it as one of if not the best of his stories: he really did get a shitty deal. Hurrah for BF: am looking forward to hearing more from him in his 'good' phase, so to speak! Am slightly impressed to find a dedicated Six fan. And hurrah for friendiness: the more the merrier.

There are a few more of the Turlough/Nyssa shots at Tragical History Tour - think they're listed under the Terminus pics. Immensely iconable, I'd say...

I love the BF audios, they keep me going. And yeah, he did get a bum deal. I honestly think I'm one of the very few sixth Doctor fans out here. *sob* Still ....

And yeah, the pics at the THT are great, and definitely iconable. I downloaded a bunch of caps from "The Five Doctors" (from

multi_who ) and am happily buried in ginger love. *sigh*

How did I miss those caps? Doh.

I think Six has his admirers, but they are mostly radio-based. Helps when you can't see what he's wearing;)

I know a lot of fans who didn't like the sixth, but now that they've heard some of the audio adventures and realize that Colin can actually act and is in fact very talented they are beginning to like him more. The scripts he had to work with were terrible, but bless him, he gave it his best.....

My trouble with Six, more than anything, is just the age-old one of not liking the Doctor who replaces 'your' one. Fivey was my childhood hero, and I was always going to be devastated when he wasn't the Doctor anymore. Six being such a complete git by comparison didn't exactly help - though now as a grown-up person I can appreciate that we weren't necessarily supposed to 'like' him at the start, and respect the fact that they were trying to do something interesting with the character.

And yes, the problem was never Colin, poor chap.

I really cannot stand the coat, though. Much as I love Five's get-up, I will admit the 'off the peg' look made a bit more sense - and Six's gear just makes it really hard for him to be as interesting and dark as he ought to be. Yet more reasons to love the audios!

I this that's one of the reasons why I don't like #7 very much. He took over form "my" doctor... Wait, wasn't I talking about that over at

multi_who ? So yeah, you have a point, and it's one that I completely understand. (Keep in mind that #5 is an extremely close second for me).

As for the costume, I think Colin would agree with you. And while I tried my darndest to dress like him when I was in junior high and high school, I can see now that dark muted colors would have been best for #6. In fact, during the commentary for Vengeance on Varos he comments that he hated the coat and wishes they had gone with the black that he wanted. While I think the black would have been a mistake as well, I think a dark blue would have been perfect. (A costume he actually wears in some of the books/BF audios/ and in "Real Time.")

I imagien that must have made high school interesting...;)
