ok, who ate my quality control?

Dear Turlough,

I'm very sorry to have to admit this, but I've been cheating on you with Dean Winchester. I'm afraid his angsty carnival of manpain has become inexplicably compelling, despite being hilarious. Perhaps it is the fact that it comes in such a pretty box.

Please reassert your daddy issues for my consideration at the earliest opportunity. And maybe hit some demons and cry a bit.

Yours in deepest shame,
uktg xx

Seriously, I think I broke something in my head. A very large portion of my brain knows that Supernatural is sub-X-Files post-Buffy nonsense written by people who perhaps read a magazine once while stuck in a lift. And yet I am goofily involved enough to have watched quite a lot of it online, in tinyvision, with the audio out of sync and FRENCH SUBTITLES. Help? I've been kidnapped by a fictional character who likes cock rock and is really quite a lot of an arsehole. *is bewildered*

Should any of you be similarly unwell, don't spoilerise me: I've only seen up to 2x13 2x14 (OMG!) and I'm sure plenty of thrilling manpain is yet to come.

Oh, and just to share the trauma around:

This is really not helping my fic-drought. But it erases that nasty Daleky aftertaste quite well...

Hahaha, awww, Adric. ♥ We just have to hope that Sam doesn't meet the same fate, yes? Although I doubt they could manufacture that on SPN, somehow. >_>

[identity profile] pontisbright.livejournal.com 2007-04-30 08:55 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm not sure that SPN/dinosaurs is really meant to be. Though he could probably be trapped in a porntastic web of bondage without too much effort.

[identity profile] alocin42.livejournal.com 2007-04-30 09:17 pm (UTC)(link)
I can see the similarity - if New Who took on a 21st century Adric then it'd look like that guy but in indie-nerd outfit with thick-rimmed black glasses.

I've less than no clue as to what Supernatural is though, so unless you accidentaly convert me to it's appreciation a la Ace 'n' Hex that about the end of my constructive comments regarding whoever that guy is...

[identity profile] pontisbright.livejournal.com 2007-04-30 09:32 pm (UTC)(link)
I wish I could've been arsed to find a screencap - in profile it's actually kind of disturbing. Although the guy who plays Sam is about ten feet tall, which seems most un-Adriclike.

SPN = cheap biscuits. You know you should put that packet away: you know if you'd only spent an extra 50p, or baked your own flapjacks filled with nutritious grains and fruits, they'd be SO much better. But these ones are here, right in front of you, and they have instant gratification in the form of pretty boys chocolate chips and sugar and probably something carcinogenic, and before you know it you are sitting in an armchair surrounded by crumbs and empty wrappers feeling terribly guilty.

Anyway, Hawt Adric is the intelligent-yet-emo brother, and Dean is the cocky-wanker-yet-still-emo brother, and they travel through time discover alien conspiracies kill demons. With emo. And cock rock. And occasional snarking and cuteness and I kind of love it though I know it's wrong. You may catch it occasionally on ITV2, which is how I got sucked in. But don't go blaming me, I told ya it was bad for ya...

Well I understand the temptation and plain sugary joy of cheap biscuits (Tesco Value biscuit selection - huzzah!) so I shall nod and agree.

I have images of a ten foot tall Adric rampaging through the TARDIS like Godzilla. Tis an amusing mental picture.

I'm sure this icon will help your mental image no end.

ADRIC IS WAY HOTTER. Also, I might have to defriend you if you continue along this vein. FRIENDS DON'T LET OTHER FRIENDS GET INTO SPN. Give it up while you still can! Resist the bad show! RESIST!!!

Oh god, please resist. You have no idea how many Firefly friends I lost utterly to the mindwashy wank of SPN. ;_;

[identity profile] pontisbright.livejournal.com 2007-04-30 11:02 pm (UTC)(link)
I cannot resist! I just had to watch another one and it was AWESOME! Except for the part where the gencder politics of it made me nearly climb under the table. And the fact that the whole thing was unspeakably lame and crass and ridiculous. YET I LOVED IT ANYWAY.

Don't worry, I'm not going to get all ridiculous about it (although I'm entertained by the idea that Firefly and SPN have any kind of logical crossover other than 'stuff what is on the telly'). For one thing, the fandom sounds like Hades. And I am fully aware that it is horseshit. But I am shallow and sometimes a pretty boy angsting is all I'm looking for, k?

God, I'm an addict. And the internet is my 24/7 dealer. :(

[identity profile] vandonovan.livejournal.com 2007-04-30 11:05 pm (UTC)(link)
But but but that's how it BEGINS. And the time you spend watching SPN is time you don't spend writing Turlough being sexed up and watching Who!

Oh, sobs and sobs.

Yes, SPN fandom ate Firefly fandom. It is tragic.

[identity profile] pontisbright.livejournal.com 2007-04-30 11:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Nonono! For I am hopeless with the fic writing at the moment anyway so this is merely rejuvenating my fannish squee in a sideways direction so it can return to Who fully refreshed and delighted! And I was able to produce Ben/Turlough picspam in the midst of subtitled Winchester-based viewing, so it cannot take me entirely away from Who even when the insanity is upon me.

Look, I'm just having a naughty affair with something that's beneath me, and will have a season finale in a couple of weeks. I'll soon crawl back to the One True Fandom all apologies, filled with guilt-induced fic and teary tales of how the other fandom was no good to me.

I BLAME RUSTY.

I am now sad and somewhat frightened. Meep!

[identity profile] pontisbright.livejournal.com 2007-04-30 11:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Perhaps Dean and Turlough could have a fight for my fannish affections? Apart from the fact that really we all know who is going to win that one, and it isn't the ginger minx. Oh dear.

Why are you so insanely appealing, oh freakishly terrible show? Is it just that I have no sincere emotional investment in you, unlike Who, and thus when you are crap I don't really care?

I AM GOING TO WATCH ANOTHER ONE NOW. I CANNOT STOP. AAAAARGH.

[identity profile] jaydeyn-sitari.livejournal.com 2007-05-01 01:40 am (UTC)(link)

Dear gods *clutches eyes* ... you had to do that didn't you? Oh gods... now I'm scarred for life.

(Although I'm all about a porntastic web of bondage... that helped with the scarrage).

I'm a big supernatural fan, so all I can say is: Yay! :D

*g* Was that Houses of the Holy? Because that was just freaking awesome. :D

Yay for SPN! It's eaten my brain, I swear. I've been watching it all out of order (caught some mid-S2 on the telly, then went back to watch the end of S1/beginning of S2, and am now back at the start of S1: soooo very ridiculous) but I seem to be becoming mildly obsessed with the pretty boys and their Car o' Greatness.

I thought Houses of the Holy was grand, although they laid on the 'hey, you're the sceptical one and I'm the one that wants to believe: perhaps in some way we will be forced to swap places by events by the end of the episode' stuff with the usual trowel. Subtle it ain't. :) But the one that made me flaily last night was Born Under a Bad Sign because EVIL!SAM! You cannot go wrong at all when there is an evil!Sam about. (Apart from the continuing use of Jo as some kind of endlessly attackable pornpuppet, which is making me enormously uncomfortable.)

[identity profile] jaydeyn-sitari.livejournal.com 2007-05-02 12:11 am (UTC)(link)

It tends to do that brain eaty thing. Have to say as a whole, I'm enjoying s2 much more, though I like the s1 quest/this is what we do thing they had going on... loved Dead in the Water and Provenance for example. Great, great ghost stories. Some moments of sheer ridiculousness but I like how Kripke is twisting a few of the usual boogeymen and is more focussed on their characters. That's nice to see. For non-wank (it is hard to avoid in this fandom!) check out [livejournal.com profile] researchgrrrl's stuff. :) And they are far, far too pretty to die.

Evil!Sam was ridiculously hot. Unfathomably hot. Also where I perked up and went, why hello Sammy - grown up some, haven't we? I swear, the boy tripled in size between seasons and in that good way. :D I agree on that attackable pornpuppet Jo thing, though I do like that she's trying to get her stuff together and sort out how to do this hunter thing rather than just hero-worshipping the idea of being a hunter (which I think is where she was way back when...). I hope she comes back a little more mature.. I make allowances for her age :D

My random viewing was mainly based on having heard that S2 was much better, which has been pretty much borne out by what I've watched, yeah: I'm happy enough to watch the spook-of-the-week/looking-for-daddy business of S1, but it's the character development stuff that's floating my personal boat (along with the snarking). I love how, despite all the 'no chick flick stuff' claims they never miss an opportunity to have them sit down and have angsty discussions about whatever emo torment is bothering them this week. :)

I fear the fandom, though: RPS is very much not my thing and I adore the whole brotherly dynamic, so the Wincest is not remotely appealing to me. Think I may remain a cheerful viewer without leaping on the fanbandwagon (although who knows how long that will last when I run out of episodes to watch, so ta for the pointer...).

My eyes are for Dean only so the hotness of evil!Sam was overridden by the hotness of smushednbroken!Dean - but yeah, he's definitely been down the gym and possibly grown even taller. Yay for Giant Sam. As for Jo, I think I was coming off the back of 'No Exit', which I found really uncomfortable viewing: hardcore Buffy-type gets nabbed and needs rescuing and a lecture from the boys about how she's not really capable? Er, thanks. And then next time we see her she gets tied up and sexually harassed. The show as a whole has such horribly screwed gender politics that i kind of hate myself for still being mesmerised. But look, pretty!

[identity profile] wishfulaces.livejournal.com 2007-05-01 03:58 am (UTC)(link)
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. Dean got to you. It's the eyelashes. The eyelashes and the pouty lips. Holy Jesu, he *could* be related to Turlough.

[identity profile] pontisbright.livejournal.com 2007-05-01 08:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Got to love a man who's not afraid of a mascara wand. Or pouting.

Damn, but that boy is pretty.

[identity profile] wishfulaces.livejournal.com 2007-05-02 01:46 am (UTC)(link)
He so totally is. I could sit and watch him on the laptop for hours being pretty. It's ridiculous.
