pontisbright: pontisbright (5turlough_terrified)
I was walking home from posting Christmas cards (every sodding year I miss the second class post deadline: such an arsewit, I am) and mentally composing a post to [profile] dw_ficsearch  to hunt out the following fic: Can't really remember the plot (or if there was one), but Five found Turlough making him a cup of tea, and discovered that the ginger one is actually a huge tea-nerd: insists on making it in a teapot, fusses about whether you put the milk in first, etc. I just remember it being kind of adorable.

Then I wondered if maybe I'd written it and forgotten it was me.

Then I realised that actually it's not Turlough, it's Hex, making tea for Ace, and it's not a fic, it's The Settling. From this I conclude that:

1) I am the worst fangirl ever
2) Ace/Hex = Five/Turlough: knowledgeable voice of experience who frequently gets exasperated by companion but is also desperately keen to teach them stuff while also trusting them to not be utterly helpless alone/dopey tart who looks nice in a uniform and causes confusing sexual tension
3) Canon is wonderful, for it has provided us with two boy companions who really like tea
4) There should be more fic about #3

In other news, I still hate 2Entertain. I bet there were loads of excitable people who could have been indoctrinated into the temple of ginger off the back of Time Crash who will instead end up watching Time-Flight and Warriors of the Deep, conclude that the Davison era is the most helplessly pathetic shambles imaginable, and never watch any old skool joy ever again. Bastards. Bet they release Four to Doomsday next, just to make me cry.

I have not watched any Turloughy Who in aaages. So: Frontios or Enlightenment?

(Also, cheers to all who responded re that Torchwood business: not ignoring anyone, just being disorganised/busy. But if you expressed an interest, promise to get back to you soon, and apologies for uselessness.)

The lemon! And the lemon trees! I started writing a whole fic based off that one line, all about the TARDIS communicating with Hex via his dreams, but I never finished it. Which is a good thing, as it was too cracked-out even for DW fandom.

Why not just go for "The Awakening" for the tea discussion??

Ooh, yes, there's this whole thing about lemon trees in the library, isn't there? Although obviously a proper Brit would never put lemon in their tea, so that buggers up my lovely tea theory. Hmm. Oh, who cares, so long as they make there be more Hex. The next one isn't for bloody ages though, boo.

I do love The Awakening (WILL!). Sadly all my viewing is currently being frustrated by me not being able to find any of the bloody CDs. But yes, a two-parter might do the job very nicely. Turlough gets tied up, someone nearly sets fire to Tegan, what more can you ask?

Well, put like that, there's always "King's Demons." Turlough gets tied up, the Doctor does some extremely phallic fencing with the Master, all set to a dodgy medieval backdrop. Brilliant.

Is the next one definitely set then? I haven't heard/noticed anything about Hex being in another audio for ages, and it's highly frustrating.

The Dark Husband: March!. And written by David Quantick, no less, which may well mean nothing to you, but should hopefully mean it's funny.

It's infuriating how few he's in thoughk, agreed, especially since you could happily dispense with Seven and just have the two of them...

I am always put off The King's Demons by that bit in ep 2 where the Kamelion!King sings a sing for about four thousand years. But it is great. There are manacles and everything. :)

"Hex is looking for the beer tent." This sounds perfect!

I actually like the singing. Yes, manacles and snarkiness! You can always fast forward through the singing, after all.

Frontios totally.

Look, Time-Flight and Warriors of the Deep may be absolute pants, but they're my kind of pants.

Aaargh, scary anon fiend! :P

I have the wrong-love for Warriors of the Deep, because it is a good story unfairly screwed beyond belief by lighting alone; because the Myrka is fucking funny and so is Ingrid Pitt and her ninja lack-o-skills, and thus it provides lols; because Turlough is in it and nothing he does makes any sense at all; and because Five goes swimming, and that is inherently quite amusing.

Time-Flight? Umm...there's that bit where Nyssa gets eaten by bubble bath? The scathing commentary is quite fun, but I'm not sure I could sit through it again without the incentive of even Sarah Sutton being quite rude about how shit it is.

Honeslty, though, I mockingly suggested a while ago that they would release those two stories before any of the rest of S21. IT WAS NOT MEANT TO BE TAKEN AS AN INSTRUCTION, 2ENTERTAIN FOOLS!

Nyssa getting eaten by the bubble-bath was my first exposure to Who, ever. And it scared the everliving daylights out of my prepubescent self :)

Ahhh, Five. Who else could go for a paddle in a V-neck sweater and look so very cool?

Heh, was meaning 'in the fandom'. Surely 'Nyssa' plus 'bubble bath' = fleeing?

(Then again, I am something of a tactless idiot. Sorry if that came off as flip and, um, completely awful. Argh. No relentless stupidity meant, honest.)

None interpreted. And hush, I've cornered the market on tactless idiotdom.

It is bloody brilliant. Am still on a traumatic 'oh shit where did I put all my cds?' hunt, but once I locate them I think Tractators will be strongly in contention. Mostly I just want the 'I'm Turlough' bit, obviously. But the fake android Tegan is also good fun...

FRONTIOOOOS.

My hate isn't for 2Entertain, more for the Restoration Team. But gah... I share your pain, and I CALLED that fucking Warriors on the Cheap DVD release probably a year in advance! *HEADDESK*

Black Guardian trilogy and Kinda, oh, Kinda, WHEN?!?!?
[identity profile] pontisbright.livejournal.com wrote:

I don't care about Kinda at all, tbh: Hindle's fucking awesome and psycho Tegan brings the funz, but there's far too much twatting about with the annoying mutes in loincloths. Plus they'll release it as a double set with Snakedance, which is memorable only for Nyssa wearing the worst companion costume of all time.

BG trilogy, now: THAT I can get behind. So long as they release a version of Terminus where you can turn the incidental music off.

*points at icon* I know it's already been concluded, but... Frontios ftw. If not just for the "Of course not, I'm Turlough" bit then certainly for that first scene in the TARDIS, which is probably still one of my favorite bits of Who ever.

*cough* I also rather like Warriors but then I'm a v. sad fangirl indeed. "Run, Tegan, save yourself!"

Not to mention the 'chicken vol-au-vent'. And the 'summer cloud'. And Five just being fabulously grumpy throughout.

'Run Tegan, save yourself!' is one of the most amusing lines he ever got. He almost sounds sincere...

Yes, we must talk re: TWyness. Have also been rubbish. :( Woes. In fact, a bit like Team TW themselves - that makes me feel a bit better.

Haha, that's great! I mix up stuff like that far too often, or more frequently I'll think of a situation and I can't remember if I read it or saw it in a movie or a show or just happened to think of it.

And re: Snakedance, that was my first Five arc (due to poor selection at the video store, not, um, personal choice). Awww.

I actually haven't watched any Turlough episodes in a while either. I'm really tempted to watch the first one he's in because of that madness with the car at the beginning.
