Journey's End

For those who read my earlier dream post, did they just make Eight not canon? Or have I misunderstood the timey-wimeyness of half-human half-Time Lord peoples? I CLAIM MY FIVE POUNDS ANYWAY, DAMMIT.

And here are some incoherent thoughts
Well, it made me sob like a fool, so they definitely did lots right. Murray Gold needs to calm the fuck down and Rose was, alas, horribly ill-served by the worst thought out plot resolution ever (here, have this trite yet unsatisfying ending and a really unpleasant-looking snog!), Jake/Mickey has been retconned, and Rusty is a lying liar re Gwen/Gwyneth.

BUT

OMFG. Oh, Donna. And it was predictable but in the most heartbreaking way, and godammit if Turn Left didn't break me into little tiny pieces already and now that's what she is, and OH WILF WITH YOUR HAVING TO LEAN ON DOORS OHHHH. And remembering to ask the Doctor if he was OK, which is really isn't, and instead of them having had a season all about Poor Wonely Dockter Woo they haven't done that, they've had him having fun with his lovely brilliant mate, and OH POOR TEN. Who has fucked up everyone he's ever met. (Wot no Adric in the flashback, boo.) Half-human him kills everyone: Time Lord him does a War Games. He's shit and he knows he is.

The bit where he goes back into the kitchen because he wants to say goodbye? OHHHHHHHH.

I'm sure there were lots of other very important things I will complain about later but for right now, I am very happy with how sad they made me. Gosh. It's been fucking excellent this year, it really has. And now I am going to cry about how his memories of all the lovely fun are now completely fucked, because I am an overinvested fangirl in a puddle, goodbye.

The snog was not nice.

Apart from that I mostly loved all of it and stuff, and like you say, Nooooooooooo OOOOOOOOOOOO for poor Donna. I loved DoctorDonna. She was cool. Even cooler than ordinary Donna, who was pretty damn brilliant.

I wanted Wilf to go away with the Doctor for a bit. Just one trip.

I think I'll have a personal edit where that bit never happens, because they fucked up the Bad Wolf Bay thing horribly the first time and I already have to pretend it never happened: this can just go in the same box, and be replaced with 'and then Rose got to be a fucking grown-up and make her own damn decisions'. The Donna stuff was so outstanding that I refuse to let my disappointment for Rose colour the rest.

I want Ten to travel with Wilf and Mr Copper from the Titanic one. Old Bloke Companions FTW! They could go shopping. And visit the Brig. It would be brilliant.

That's going to be the first special next year. Doctor + Wilf + Mr Copper + Brig. It will be the BEST SPECIAL EVER!! They will start off drinking tea made by Mrs Brig, and then she'll say "I'll leave you boys to catch up, I've got some knitting to do" and she'll go away, and then they'll have an adventure, and at the end, she'll come back in and they'll have just saved the world, but Mrs Brig won't know, she'll just be all "would you like some teacakes?" and they'll be all "that would be lovely."

I felt sorry for Mickey. I'm glad Mickey will be back though, without awful clingy Rose. I like Mickey, I'm looking forward to seeing him again.

YES THIS IS TRUE YOU HAVE SEEN THE SCRIPTS AND IT WILL HAPPEN FOR DEFINITE. I will accept no less.

I dunno if Mickey really will be back - but assume he will at least cameo in Torchwood even if he doesn't become a regular.

Oh. I thought it had been confirmed that Mickey and Martha were joining Torchwood. Oh.

And also DAMN, you have rumbled my secret filming spy status.

I think it's still not official either way. Martha's definitely on board for the radio play thing they're doing, but then since S3 will be only 5 episodes anyway, I dunno. Maybe I'm wrong...
[identity profile] gingerelanor.livejournal.com wrote:

Radio Play? (Ooooooh though!)

I assumed the ending was set up to allow Martha to join Torchwood (esp re the comment from Jack about had she considered somewhere else?) and then Mickey ran after them... and she would replace Owen and he would replace Tosh, fits in perfectly really. Except WHO WOULD LOVE MICKEY??? That's not fair. Booo.

Mickey/Jack/Ianto, obvs.

No no no no no. They will have to bring Jake through from the parallell universe, because he will clearly be Pining, and Mickey maybe won't know.

In my mind, Jake died fighting some threat. Without Gran or Jake, Mickey has no reason to stay.
[identity profile] gingerelanor.livejournal.com wrote:
Jul. 6th, 2008 10:28 am (UTC)
But that's sad! :(

I think Mickey didn't know about Jake loving him, so THOUGHT he had nothing to go back for, but now Jake will be desperate to find him and he'll chase him through the rift and find him in Cardiff, and they can live in Owen's really cool flat happily ever after.

I totally think the Doctor is gonna go back for Wilf, it's just that Wilf needs to look after Donna for a bit now...

Wait, what about Gwen/Gwyneth?

(You know I'm an American on the troll for spoilers.)
[identity profile] pontisbright.livejournal.com wrote:

Tsk, you naughty thing.

Ten asked Gwen if she had relatives in Cardiff in the 19th century and him and Rose had a little 'aha!' moment re Gwyneth. Which given that Rusty has always said in interviews 'gosh no of course they aren't anything to do with each other, it's just the same actress' is mildly irritating. Not a very big deal though. Am sure everyone else is busy getting their knickers in knots re Rose.

Pfft. I'm so not anal about DW spoilers. Wait, lies. Spoil me on Big Finish and I'll cry. Well, except for The Condemned, which I cheered over.

So a throwaway line to explain Eve Myles, sort of like the throwaway line to explain Freema?

Works.

I wanted the magnificent adventures of Doctor!Donna and her faithful sidekick Jack, damnit!

Am sort of wishing the Doctor hadn't used the same "I can save you, we're the only ones left!" chatup lines on Davros as he had on the Master last series, that's making my brain break...

[identity profile] pontisbright.livejournal.com wrote:

They were one second out of sync that whole time: in the other world that is totally happening.

The Doctor is such a whore. Next year, he's going to run after some Silurians shouting I LOOOOOOOOVE YOUUUUUUUUU, you wait.
[identity profile] rhube.livejournal.com wrote:

But he always was a bit that way with the Silurians.

[identity profile] pontisbright.livejournal.com wrote:

Weeeeeeeeeell...in the TVM Eight says he's half-human. Whereas when Donna becomes a half-Timey/half-human, it makes her brains start coming out of her ears. Now obviously there is all kind of handwaving (ho-ho) that can be done regarding how she got to be a timey-human (I think there was some technobabble in there about how the particlar micro-doodah transfer thingumajig in particular couldn't be sustained, but I was a bit busy blubbing by then to be paying close attention), so as with all canon it's kind of pick'n'mix. Just wondered if Rusty was inviting another round of 'Paul McGann doesn't count'...

I'm still all wibbly. Oh, Donna, I miss you already.
[identity profile] gingerelanor.livejournal.com wrote:
Jul. 5th, 2008 08:41 pm (UTC)
Oh I see. I was sort of assuming that a human who happens to be half Time Lord (like Donna) would die, but a Time Lord who happened to be half human (like Rose's blue suit guy) would be ok, otherwise why would Ten leave Rose with evil!Doctor if he was only going to go into meltdown later anyway. So in that way McGann would be ok. But if you have a theory that makes him go away forever, I will be happy.

..know what, that's okay, I'm not sure I want Eight to be any part of this canon. Says she who's only seen "Partners In Crime" and then gathered spoilers via the anon meme.
[identity profile] pontisbright.livejournal.com wrote:

Pfft, you are very foolish. It's been to my mind the best season by far since Nine buggered off (and I love Rose, and I love Martha, but oh, Donna just really became so wonderful from Pompeii onwards). Go and watch the whole season and then judge. The spoilers via the anon meme are all focusing on the wankiest possible interpretation of anything, natch.

I mean, if you want to nitpick about whether adequate technobabble has been supplied to handwave a few bits and bobs, blah, whatever, not Rusty's forte at all - and there are some wider issues like him reducing the Daleks to comedy toys by the end of the ep - BUT in terms of big dramatic emotional gutwrenchy stuff, it did the business. Without any Tinkerbell Sparkly JesusDoctor too. I have quibbles, but far fewer than last year. Honestly, though, go watch some Donna. THERE ARE GIANT WASPS!

Now, see, I take the smart route. I just read the Wikipedia article, then if it catches my eye, find the episode. Except this one. I'm getting it now.

I second the 'see the whole season before you judge'. There were one or two weak episodes, but, over all, I've found it the best season of New Who so far.

I'm also stroking my fanon that it can still be worked so that Eight counts...

(Also: yay! I love seeing my icons around and about :-D)

Oh, I am glad I'm not the only one sad or whatever about Jake/Mickey! I didn't actually realize this but apparently I just had this idea of them living happily ever after in the alt!verse in my head and had that whole story. So that's gone, then :p

Murray Gold needs to calm the fuck down

Word. So many parts of this episode were embarrassing music-wise but the bit with the Tardis pulling the Earth back home? Oh my goodness.

Rose's 'happy ending' was kind of terrifying. It's like she doesn't care at all what happens as long as she gets her man, which isn't even her man but this fake clone Ten. It's really creepy! Like if she got a robot and dressed it up like Ten and made it love her. Yeeeeesh.

I TOTALLY THOUGHT THERE WAS GOING TO BE ADRIC IN THE FLASHBACK. Hahaha. I thought it was going to be just him, actually. Instead of everyone ever.

The Donna (and Wilf) stuff was great and too sad. Awwwww Donna I love her. Ah when Ten went back to say bye! *flails*

I really liked this whole season, too.

I was a bit miffed that we saw no flashbacks of old who companions. I mean, I know the quality of teh filming would have been entirely different and a bit weird looking, but I wouldn't have minded one bit.

The confusion over Eight/half-human is pissing me off. However, I think it's workable. We know from The Doctor's Daughter that there is at least one not-quite-a-time-lord floating around (and the comment of 'She's too much like me' for the OMFGBBQ). I hate the fact that they're confusing the canon in this way, but I think the thing is that Donna/human!Ten were half'n'half in a different way. Or, more properly, they weren't half'n'half - they were part'n'part. Donna didn't become half-Time Lord, she got some Time Lord knowledge/mind/personality; and the other 'Doctor' was Ten, but fully human, or at least, much more so that half-human!Eight or Jenny, as they both have two hearts. They're more fully Time Lords than human!Ten or DoctorDonna.

And thus my fanon is reassured.

Not even gonna talk about the horribly-cheesey-(surely)-even-if-you-ship-them Rose/human!Ten thing.

THis from the 'Fact File':

Half Human?

Those of you who have been slightly bothered for the last 12 years by the comment made by the Eighth Doctor in the TV Movie that he was half human on his mother's side, can probably breathe a sigh of relief now. The Doctor #2 seems shocked that he has become uniquely half human due to the biological metacrisis wth Donna, strongly suggesting that he never was before.

*is annoyed* I'm 'slightly bothered' that you're messing about with canon. Pah!
