A genius thing of great...oh.

Now I know how all those people who didn't like Act III of Dr Horrible felt.

FONT CONFERENCE! Completely hilarious viral-type thingy about fonts, which managed to be a joke designed especially for [livejournal.com profile] pontisbright until...oh, I cannot even speak of it. But I suspect I shan't be alone in being utterly horrified by the ending? Please? Tis a bit like fandom, where you spend a little while going 'eee, other people who like what I like instead of finding it esoteric to the point of alarm!' and then you discover that otherwisecharming!Bob hates on Troughton. Does this mean there is font fandom? Helvetica/Felix Titling OTP 4EVA.

In other news, I apologise for my inexplicable downer on Blake's 7 S2. Have now resumed Space Panto = Glee mode, thanks to Shadow (little blobs of glass that walk! Cally inna box! Avon and Blake and Jenna in white looking so much like the Bee Gees it made me start singing at the telly!) and Weapon, which (despite the rubbishness of Trav 2: boo, I say, boo!) is bloody magnificent. The Lobster Suit was all I had heard and more. And Carnell...oh heavens...

Augh. Yes, I completely agree with you on the ending to that. FOUL!

Seriously, if you care even a tiny bit about fonts, you know that Comic Sans is universally - and correctly - reviled. I was waiting for the punchline to be about it being erased from existence. :(

Comic sans needs to no longer exist. I was expecting Helvetica to save the day.

It was good to see Century Gothic getting some action, at least. But the inclusion of Futura was purely for costume lols, and the presence of Jokerman and Curlz MT felt like random padding by font n00bs who are yet to be acquainted with Budmo Jiggler.

See? IT IS A FANDOM.

I know that there are typography comms around. I've seen 'em. I can't remember the names of 'em, but I've seen 'em.

Definitely a fandom. XD

Will watch the font thing later, but oh, yay Shadow. Vila's character is a bit rubbishi n that one, but I love all the same. The white shirts! The moondiscs! Bek and Hanna! Gan in his Renaissance tunic! Cally getting to do decent stuff for once! Jenna's silver boots! Avon's sentimental about money! Gan calling Orac's name! Vila hiding Orac so well that Avon doesn't even bother looking for it! Horribly dodging looking twin suns and illogical "There IS no night side" lines! etc. Yay!

And, oh Weapon. People bitch about it, but I adore it. I think it's an excellent episode despite Fail!Travis. Carnell is AMAZING and the lines are marvelous and BLAKE HAS A CLONE WHO WEARS THE SAME OUTFIT HE DOES and Rashel is entirely too posh for a bond slave and the Clone Makers have ridiculous costumes even for B7 and the Lobster Suit debuts and HE HAS MATCHING RED HEELS and Vila wears a very very sexy black shirt yay. I am so easy.

I really loved them both, and both in the 'wtf is this deranged plot doing now' cracktastic lols way and the 'genuine enjoyment' manner. Vila's random hangover thing was a bit bizarre (mostly because you never got to see any of the thrills of Space City - though given the name possibly that's a good thing), but I loved the Mafiaguys as a concept - and yay Jacko from Brush Strokes! Those two were so fabulously deadpan.

People bitch about Weapon? Why?? Yes, crap!Travis is really awful, and the double act of the bond slave and the nutter is a bit dull, but oh gods, was up there with Seek Locate Destroy and the like for me. Servalan is awesome, naturally. I did enjoy Blake's clone acting (and indeed coincidental outift). And CARNELL YAY. He made me cry with gleeful laughter every time he was on screen. Possibly my favourite guest star in anything ever, honestly. He even made me not notice Vila in a sexy black shirt, evidently.

I have no idea what are considered 'good' episodes in this fandom. It's quite weird.

Okay, have watched the video. ComicSans could have been played for laughs, but. Yeah. Um. What? I bet whoever did that used ComicSans for something, someone made fun of him for it and then he was like I AM GOING TO MAKE COMICSANS COOL!!!!!111 JUST YOU WAIT AND SEE. Sigh. Fail. Fail.

Still, a very funny video.

and yay for Shadow and the mafia guys and I wish they'd come back and poor budget not showing us how awesome Space City was, but I forgive it because of Freedom City and the Vila/Avon exchanges in Gambit.

I'm not sure why people bitch about Weapon. Maybe it's Fail!Travis or the clone. I dunno. I love it a lot though. Like, embarrassingly a lot. I recently posted about how much I very much love Weapon and some people were like, "..." BUT I DONT CARE I LOVE WEAPON AND CARNELL. WHY DIDN'T YOU STAY FOREVER INSTEAD OF FAIL!TRAVIS. You should totally read this Travis 1/Carnell pre-series fic. It is very awesome yay.

There aren't a lot of shots of Vila in his sexy black shirt but it is both black and sexy.

Your 'but I like Comic Sans so you must all too' is the only possible explanation.

I am baffled by people not liking Weapon. Even if I am presently being distracted by all the nekkid Blake flesh currently on display in Horizon. He's so...muddy. Rawr!

Vila's black shirt > Vila's yellow shirt. Though that's not exactly a challenge.

BAN COMIC SANS, DAMN IT.

And Space Panto FTW. (I still insist it isn't as panto as eighties Who, but nevermind. It becomes far crazier in S4.) AND I THOUGHT OF THE BEE GEES TOO.

Carnell is disturbing, yes. It probably doesn't help that Scott Fredericks is about ten times that evil/pervy in RL.

Comic Sans makes me feel unwell. Only ever used by people who go 'Comic what? what are you talking about? you're so weird' etc when you ask them to stop, too.

Yay Space Panto. I think it's the mad staginess of stuff like the Clone Maker people scenes more than anything. And how the whole thing seems to be held together with sellotape and crossed fingers, obviously. AmDram Telly: love it.

I was anticipating Carnell being 'interesting' from your references to him, but good lord, I had no idea he was going to talk like that. The stuff with him and Jacqueline Pearce where they're just THESPING at one another...gosh. Purest win.

OOh, OOh, wait until you see "When Special Effects Turn Bad" in Rescue. Steven Pacey cops a load right in the balls :D

......Don't ask me why I just remembered that.

They really went overboard with the robin hood look in S2. I always had mental images of Avon being a rather benign version of Alan Rickman's sheriff of nottingham.

I do not know what made you think of Steven Pacey's balls either. But now that makes two of us...

I've so warmed to the ridiculous space pirate vagabond in a theatre thing they have going now. Apart from Cally's green thing, which is just daft.
[identity profile] taleya.livejournal.com wrote:

I dunno, I can kinda see why they went the green thing (and its algae brown counterpart) - she does tend to evoke very 80's english woodsy Hern-type themes. It's the same reason why writers use descriptives like "doe eyes" in reference to the character.

I know that everytime I see her the phrase "Bag of Antlers" springs to mind
[identity profile] pontisbright.livejournal.com wrote:

Nooo! But it's so spandexy and spacedorky and not at all woodlandy! I could get it more if it WAS more 'gentle female of the trees'y (even if sigh, where did hardcore shooty!Cally go?).

I shout 'Sandwich!' every time she appears onscreen. It's a weird Pavlovian thing.

Hot Font Action, woohoo!

I once watched a whole documentary about fonts, and there was an old guy who was a Font Expert and he was great. He was all tweedy and bearded and he told a font joke (two fonts walked into a bar, but the barman said "sorry, we don't serve your type in here") and he couldn't tell it for laughing at his own joke before the punchline. He was so happy.

You will need to have sturdy shoes, thick brown tights and a tweed suit.

I could so work that. I'm going to be a sensible shoes kind of old lady. Dunno about the tweed, though. And I'm not having those glasses on a bit of string with fake plastic jewels on, either.
