'I say, Holmes...

...did you know we were hilarious comic creations?'

*headdesks repeatedly for several days*

As if I didn't already need to eat my own head today.  Where is the chocolate?  Where is the chocolate?  Where is the chocolate? Jinkies McFucksicle, LJ, sort out this fucking problem with Firefox3 before I stab something, yeah?
ETA: The chocolate is now in my tummy. Which is lucky as, I shit ye not, a BLOODY HUGE MOTH flew into the oven while I was cooking dinner and died a blackened crispy garlic death in my courgettes. *whimpers*

I don't like Sacha or Will, so I won't see it. Because that's just headdeskworthy to the extreme.

[identity profile] pontisbright.livejournal.com 2008-07-02 05:30 pm (UTC)(link)
I loved Will Farrell in 'Stranger than Fiction', but that's because it's an awesome film. This sounds...awful. Two godawful-sounding Reinventing Sherlock movies at once is too damn cruel. AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARH.

I may possibly be a little vexed at this moment. Ahem.

Here ... Have Turlough. *hugs*

[identity profile] pontisbright.livejournal.com 2008-07-02 06:40 pm (UTC)(link)
And here was me thinking my trip to the shops to locate pasta, wine and insanely dark chocolate were the things that would cheer me up. *squishes him* Ta!

[identity profile] bibliophile1887.livejournal.com 2008-07-02 07:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, you foolish, foolish child. :P

[identity profile] lesbiassparrow.livejournal.com 2008-07-02 05:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Comedic Holmes can work (as in Without a Clue and the book 'A Samba For Sherlock') but I suspect this won't be one of those times.

However, I bet this will annoy me much, much less than the Ritchie version.

[identity profile] pontisbright.livejournal.com 2008-07-02 06:41 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm not sure I'd put Without A Clue on my favourites list ever, but both of these make that sound like bliss. I can't figure out if pratfalls willbe more annoying that irrelevant swashbuckling, tbh... Oh hang on, the Ritchie one's got Sienne Miller in it, doesn't it? Well, that solves that then.

[identity profile] sovietkiki.livejournal.com 2008-07-02 05:55 pm (UTC)(link)
I will only see this because I have a massive crush on Will Ferrell.

Not because I think it's a brilliant casting choice.

Because I really, really don't.

[identity profile] pontisbright.livejournal.com 2008-07-02 06:44 pm (UTC)(link)
I suspect he'll be playing up the Rotund Goofball Who Falls Over Shit angle of Watson that we all know and love.

:(

[identity profile] taleya.livejournal.com 2008-07-02 06:26 pm (UTC)(link)
"Just the idea of Sacha and Will as Sherlock Holmes and Watson made us laugh,"

THAT DOESN'T MEAN YOU SHOULD DO IT, DAMMIT!

That said, I must admit to a shameful fondness for the comedy Without a clue - but at least that has fucking Michael Caine and Ben Kingsley as Holmes and Watson respectively!

I've not updated to 3.0 yet. sounds like I have reason to be teh happeh :D

[identity profile] pontisbright.livejournal.com 2008-07-02 06:45 pm (UTC)(link)
You'd think it would be a reason NOT to do it. I had the misfortune to watch a bit of the Steve Coogan/Jackie Chan 'Around the World in 80 Days' thing recently: have nasty feeling this will rival it for horribleness.

3.0 = inability to include links in one's posts. Maddening.

[identity profile] taleya.livejournal.com 2008-07-02 06:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Tried pasting the link into notepad, then into Firefox? usually fixes the issue if it's an arse-tarded formatting issue.

I dunno, I didn't mind the Chan/Coogan around the world in 80 days. Then again, I wasn't expecting anything remotely resembling the original story in any way, shape or form.

Plus I hold the opinion that Ferrell should be fucking shot before he makes another film. Just the inclusion of his name lets you know it's going to be utter shite - much like Rob Schneider. (in fact, if those two ever did a film together it would create a black hole of suck that would DEVOUR THE GALAXY)

FFS, the last *funny* thing he was involved in was Zoolander, and even that's chiefly because someone had him on a leash.

[identity profile] pontisbright.livejournal.com 2008-07-02 07:20 pm (UTC)(link)
It's a problem with the pop-up menu for links when you're in Rich Text mode, so is fixable if I suck it up and use html, which is what I always used to use anyway. Just annoying because it won't even let you edit the sodding thing properly if you forget...

As said above, Ferrell is brilliant in Stranger than Fiction, but he makes for bloody odd casting: assume he was trying to do a Jim Carrey/Truman Show 'look I can do acting' thing. Otherwise I have avoided his ouevre on the basis that it all looks like shite. Even Zoolander has flashes of brilliance and long periods of blah.

several, He was not dressed as Madame Choo Choo when, but, We take that which you can get. as you can expect, Portis refused to play along and instead gave only hogwash answers. As suggested by its name, He stands in the total center of the offensive line. Many teams assign the middle with the team captaincy, As he in the middle of it all, And this makes it easier for him to coordinate the entire attack.

[identity profile] bibliophile1887.livejournal.com 2008-07-02 07:15 pm (UTC)(link)
... and I find that interesting, because I haven't yet had a problem with LJ and 3.0. *shrug*

[identity profile] pontisbright.livejournal.com 2008-07-02 07:20 pm (UTC)(link)
It's only if you use rich text mode - so if you just stick with html, it's fine. I was just being lazy. :(

[identity profile] bibliophile1887.livejournal.com 2008-07-02 07:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Well there you go. I've never liked rich text mode, it's never worked right for me, so I just avoid it and hand code my posts.

[identity profile] pontisbright.livejournal.com 2008-07-02 07:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Yep: got into the habit when juggling epic number of posts and links for torch_wood when it was more of an arse to locate a lost quotation mark or two, but I can deal. Annoying that RT is the default, though. *sighs*

[identity profile] bibliophile1887.livejournal.com 2008-07-02 07:43 pm (UTC)(link)
It's not the default on mine. Huh. Does it just remember what you used last time and then open that up? IDK.

And yes, rich text was nice when I was coding [livejournal.com profile] who_daily, but then I discovered clients (semagic or logjam), and I started using that instead for doing the newsletters.

[identity profile] wishfulaces.livejournal.com 2008-07-02 06:27 pm (UTC)(link)
This is rather amusing to me only because I just posted in my LJ about a set of audio plays based on Holmes & Watson. And those actually *are* quite good, dagnabbit, even if all the American actors are trying so very, very hard at the various accents.

[identity profile] pontisbright.livejournal.com 2008-07-02 06:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Aww, wonky foreign Holmes'n'Watson who are at least trying >>> useless twonks who insist on taking the names of the characters and then fucking around with them to the point of total unrecognisability. Grrrrrrrrrrrar.

(Also I've been completely skimming of late for rubbish RL reasons but is nice to have you posting again. :D)

[identity profile] wishfulaces.livejournal.com 2008-07-02 07:21 pm (UTC)(link)
I insist that you go listen to one of these audios then because while it's been aaaaaages since I've read any Conan Doyle, this version of his characters is AWESOME. Seriously.

(I've been flitting about the continent a lot and really need to make myself settle down so I can find another job. So expect more spamming in future. :p)

[identity profile] pontisbright.livejournal.com 2008-07-02 07:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Okeydoke, will winkle them out. :)

More spam! Unlimited rice pudding! etc.

[identity profile] wishfulaces.livejournal.com 2008-07-02 07:41 pm (UTC)(link)
But absolutely no burnt toast. *sunny smile*

[identity profile] pontisbright.livejournal.com 2008-07-02 07:42 pm (UTC)(link)
I like burnt toast! And railway stations. I fail at being Seven.

[identity profile] wishfulaces.livejournal.com 2008-07-02 07:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Alright, you can have all the burnt toast you want. And the rice pudding, for that matter. I'll split the railway stations with you.

[identity profile] pontisbright.livejournal.com 2008-07-02 07:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Someone else will have to take the rice pudding, actually: possibly the only food substance in the whole world I would rather vomit than eat.

Where do you stand on unrequited love?

[identity profile] wishfulaces.livejournal.com 2008-07-02 07:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah, that's like tapioca and peas to me. (Erm, not together. Though the combination would probably also require copious spewing.)

Having just decided that romanticism requires a form of suspension of disbelief that I'm just not cut out for...I think I'll stick you with the unrequited love. :p

[identity profile] pontisbright.livejournal.com 2008-07-02 09:14 pm (UTC)(link)
PEAS? Who the hell doesn't like PEAS?

Ahem. Sorry, that's just...peas are really quite lovely. I could live on them for, ooh, weeks. I find people who dislike fairly dull things a bit scary: I keep trying to cook dinner for people who turn up and then mention their dislike of vegetables, chilli, rice immediately before you serve up the vegetarian curry you spent 3 hours making specially to suit their dietary needs. Hot things? Fine, I get that. All vegetables ever? You really need to let me know that sort of thing.

I suppose unrequited love is better than no love at all? It's been so long I may have forgotten...

[identity profile] wishfulaces.livejournal.com 2008-07-05 03:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, PEAS. They're alright mixed into dishes, particularly stir frys (stir fries?) when they're not quite so mushy, but I simply can't eat them by themselves as some sort of side dish.

Me, being the polite guest I am, would never let you know that I thoroughly despise asparagus or something and would force it down somehow. :p

It's been so long I may have forgotten...

Hmmm, that's actually depressingly a good point...

[identity profile] lucythedragon.livejournal.com 2008-07-02 07:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Hey look! A whole new reason not to get out of bed ever again!

*cries*

[identity profile] pontisbright.livejournal.com 2008-07-02 07:41 pm (UTC)(link)
I know. It's a bloody conspiracy. :(

[identity profile] romanticizing.livejournal.com 2008-07-02 09:02 pm (UTC)(link)
"Just the idea of Sacha and Will as Sherlock Holmes and Watson made us laugh," studio spokesman Matt Tolmach told Variety.

Uh, laugh is not exactly the right word there..

Someday I will see that movie where Charlton Heston plays Sherlock Holmes.

How did a moth fly into your oven?! Wow. Yeesh.

[identity profile] pontisbright.livejournal.com 2008-07-02 10:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Chuck as Sherlock? Even with him dead, that makes me shiver.

The moth just...flew. I opened the door to check things weren't burning, anbd then suddenly ina mongst the roasting vegetables in the tray was a sizzling moth going black. I'm not sure there has been invented a dinner I want to eat less. :(

[identity profile] frightened.livejournal.com 2008-07-02 10:28 pm (UTC)(link)
I recently joined Ravelry, and it asked me to pick my favourite cussword, and I don't really have a favourite. When it comes to swearing, I'm a polyamorous and equal-opportunities kind of girl. But I think "Jinkies McFucksicle" just won a small prize.

[identity profile] pontisbright.livejournal.com 2008-07-02 10:50 pm (UTC)(link)
That was a particularly special fusion of hormones and fury. I mean, generally I go for the rustic favourites, but every now and then, one wants to get a bit floral for the occasion.

I think the moth in my oven just made me go 'aaieeeeeeeeee', though. I must practise.

[identity profile] bienegold.livejournal.com 2008-07-02 10:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Lolwut?

GAH. I violently object.

[identity profile] pontisbright.livejournal.com 2008-07-02 10:50 pm (UTC)(link)
I insert you upon the mental petition of affronted horror at once. :)

[identity profile] --kali--.livejournal.com 2008-07-04 06:49 pm (UTC)(link)
This sounds completely and utterly terrible. Why Hollywood, why?
