Blake's 7, season 2, omgwtfbbq

pontisbright: (dougalconfused)
OK, so, let's just pretend I got round to actually writing a shedload of squee posts about all of B7 season 1. In them I observed how very much I did love it all, especially Servalan and Travis being completely brilliant at one another, and Blaaaaake actually being weirdly attractive (in a lumbering sort of way), and Avon filling the world with lols (sometimes intentionally), and Vilavilavilailovehimso, and how, really, any show where that prompts an 'ooh, is that Carol Royle?' is going to bring the happy round at Pontisbright Towers. (I may have skimmed over the intense boringness of Jenna and how much Cally needs a sandwich. But I skimmed over even these things with love.)

Aaaaaanyway, now am on S2. And...um...

Redemption? I approve of running around that place from The Hand of Fear with the pixie-like Thal from Genesis of the Daleks and Sheila Ruskin (who was Kassia in Keeper of Traken though I actually recognised her from Pros and had to look her up, for shame). But:

WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK ARE YOU ALL WEARING?

Granted, Avon's gimpwear is not exactly a departure. But really, Blake, if you're going to be having fights with bits of electrical cable, you should probably opt for something a touch less parachutey? Cally looks like the Green Cross Code Woman. Vila's bananatrousers upset me. And oh, Gan, you did not really need to look more like an out-of-work Shakespearean stage actor.

I liked the bacofoil and flares in space and those weird furry parka things they had. I don't mind them looking a bit daft. I positively approve of them looking a bit daft. But THEY'RE SUPPOSED TO BE FUGITIVES. Fugitives do not wear velvet cloaks and big pouffy sleeves of impracticalness.

Also: I was hoping for a longer wait for Darrow to cotton on to the fact that the audience like his batshit delivery to random corners of the room. It's like Jack Sparrow: the minute we're all in on the joke, it stops being funny. Oh Avon, you were so much more fun when it was by accident.

I did like that bit when Blake told them all to sit down, when they were sitting down. But it was mostly quite annoying.

Tell me it returns to the giddy heights of S1?

Poor Jenna. I just remember it's the 1970s and Uhura was still in a miniskirt and repeating the computer. (Well, okay, maybe not, but not far off.) It's possible I love Jenna a little too much. But I am surprised to see her called bland. Cally, yes. Jenna, however, is surprising to me. Ah well.

Poor S4 Avon. It's utterly nuts. It's certainly an inevitable fate, though I'm not sure about "perfect." XD

I actually quite like Cally, I just realised. The telepathy stuff is all bollocks, obviously. And the needing-a-sandwich thing is honestly quite distressing to me. But I like how she seems to actually give a shit about the other people in the crew. She asks questions about stuff and gets arsey and I quite like her weirdass nervy thing. Plus she just told Vila she wanted a necklace made from his teeth, which amused me. I don't like her new clothes at all, though: like they're trying to make her totty when she really isn't.

OK, maybe not Avon's perfect fate, bless him. His perfect fate would be being trapped on that planet with the loopy bird who thought he was god. Inevitable though, yep :)

I do like Cally in "Shadow." I think that's one of her best episodes, actually. And, really, I like that outfit too. It's one of her less grandmaish ones. But, you know, she gets posessed by some alien thing. Again. It happens three times in S3. It gets old, fast. I don't mind that she's compassionate, I just dislike that they introduced her as a kickass freedom fighter rebel type, and very quickly turned her into the ship pascifist. I just find her terribly boring, I guess.

Ah well. At least you've got Dayna and Soolin to look forward to? Ahaha.

I am bummed about her going from the 'wahey I will kill you dead' thing to 'oh i am so sensitive' thing in no time at all, yeah, give you that. But they do kind of need someone on board who gives a toss about anyone else. However much I love the idea of how amazingly brutal and selfish they're all capable of being. :)

Saw the first few of S4 not that long ago, and obviously Soolin has Glynis Barber points, but damn her hair perturbs me. I may need to get over that. I seem to remember thinking Dayna was quite awesome when I was about 5, though.

They all have their flaws and positives, but I ultimately think all their positives balance out their flaws. (Well, except for Cally, for she gets the Awkward Love Interest thing that completely fails to work or make sense in S3 too, alas.) It's funny how the hair doesn't bother me, though. I think Soolin's is pretty fun, really. XD I mean, compared to Tarrant's fro-puff!

Dayna is kickass, and has great tits too, though she too has her occasional vapid moments. I mean, the series is certainly not without many flaws. But I love it despite them. And sometimes because of them. I mean, I love that Vila becomes a depressed drunkard and Avon goes complete off the edge, but so many fans hate S4. *shrugs*

I actually don't have a problem with her hair (tres ABBA) but the bunny suits......no. Just no. At least put a tail on them or something...
